Under administrative direction from the Director of Planning and Code Compliance, the Planning Manager manages the planning functions of the County of Greenville, including both long-range and current planning activities, as well as carrying out research planning projects and assisting with the overall day-to-day management of planning activities within the Planning division of the Planning and Code Compliance Department. This position directly supervises a team of Principal Planners, Planners, and Administrative staff assigned Planning Manager. The individual selected for this position will: be responsible for the development, updates and facilitation of the Comprehensive Plan and ongoing planning programs including Area Plans, Community Plans, corridor studies, and special projects. Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of planning programs, service delivery methods and procedures; assess and monitor work program; identify opportunities for improvement and review with the Director of Planning and Code Compliance.
A minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in public planning, administration, and consultation or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities to perform the daily job functions. Experience providing customer service to developers and citizens is critical to success in this position. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in city, urban and regional planning, architecture, urban design, and economics, public administration or closely related field. Membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) is required.
A master's degree in Planning or closely related field is highly desirable and may be substituted for one year of experience. A copy of Motor Vehicle Record will be required.
