Director, Land Use and Growth Management - St. Mary's County, MD

St. Mary’s County, Maryland

The director will have demonstrated the ability to:
- Develop and achieve strategic goals
- Serve as the Planning Director
- Develop and review regulations concerning subdivisions, zoning, transportation and facility needs
- Oversee code review and compliance and permits and inspection issues
- Mediate code and/or inspection issues between County, builders, designers and building owners

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, business administration or related field
- Masters degree preferred
- Seven years or more of  related experience, at least five years in a management or executive capacity
- American Institute of  Certified Planners/AICP Certification preferred
- Extensive knowledge of  zoning and subdivision statutes, codes and  regulations
- Track record of  being proactive and results oriented
- Experience working with elected officials and appointed boards
- Extensive knowledge of  Governmental fiscal policies, procedures, and legal mandates including the budget process

The department will have a  strategic focus on:
- Enhancing the quality of  life for present and future generations through protection of the natural environment balanced with orderly growth, while ensuring both guidance and effectiveness of the land use regulations
- Applying the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Critical Areas, Forest Conservation and Historic Preservation regulations.
