The City of Newport Beach, one of Southern California’s most scenic and dynamic beach communities, has a full-time opening for Community Development Director.
The Community Development Director reports to the City Manager and leads the operations and activities of a comprehensive department, which is supported by two Assistant Directors, a Systems and Information Manager and administrative staff. The Building division includes Inspection, Plan Check, Permitting, Fire Prevention-Life Safety and Real Property Management; Planning includes Current Planning, Housing/Grants, Zoning and Code Enforcement. The Department employs 47 full-time and 7 part-time employees and has a FY2016-17 budget of over $12 million.
A qualified candidate must have seven years of increasingly responsible municipal planning and community development experience or comparable, including at least three years of responsible administrative and management experience. A Bachelor’s degree in planning, public administration, civil engineering or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree in planning, public administration or a related field is desirable.
