Town Planner- Maggie Valley. The Town of Maggie Valley is now accepting applications for Town Planner. Maggie Valley is located thirty miles west of Asheville and is directly nestled between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The valley (pop. 1,250) has a rich history of community and tourism and is a wonderful place to live and work. In this position, the Town Planner plans, organizes, and performs the planning and development activities of the Town and serves as staff to the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment. In his or her role, the planner will have the opportunity to work in various planning concentrations and will be involved with several exciting projects that will have a lasting impact on the community and region. To excel in this position, an applicant must have a considerable understanding of the planning field and both state statutes and local ordinances. An applicant must also have strong public relations skills and a proven record of public communication. Lastly, an applicant should have the skills to lead and work with all departments of the Town to achieve project success. As for qualifications, a bachelor’s degree in city/regional/urban planning, public policy, public administration or a similar field with a minimum of two years of experience in planning, zoning, land use and land development work, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities is preferred. A Master’s degree in the above referenced fields may be used in lieu of the required minimum experience. The Town Planner is directly supervised by the Town Manager and the salary range for this position is $42,517-$63,775 with competitive benefits package (Hiring range depends upon qualifications and experience).
