Orange County, Virginia, a progressive community located in Virginia’s Piedmont, is seeking a Director of Economic Development to build on recent success with job creation and expansion of the local tax base. The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Urban Planning, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics, or related field. A Master’s Degree and/or Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) credential is desirable. Education must be supplemented by a minimum of 5 years of economic development experience in a senior management capacity with a comparably-sized and progressive local government or regional economic development organization which provides a wide range of economic development coordination and implementation services. The ideal candidate should also possess experience interacting with a variety of private sector partners and prospective businesses, public and non-profit organizations, elected and appointed officials, and interpreting and communicating complex issues to groups with varying interests. A competitive candidate will demonstrate past success in bringing together various groups and constituencies to foster creative and practical solutions for local economic development issues. This position reports directly to the County Administrator.
